Summary
OrbitRemit charges a flat fee per transfer with no exchange rate markup — the rate you see is the rate your family receives, locked at confirmation, with no weekend surcharge; Revolut adds a 1% markup on all currency exchanges made on weekends (Friday 5pm to Sunday 6pm ET) on its free Standard plan
OrbitRemit is purpose-built for migrant remittance corridors — fee-free to India, Philippines mobile wallets, Vietnam, Nepal and Indonesia from Australia; Revolut covers 160+ countries but is primarily designed as a multi-currency spending account and travel card, not a dedicated remittance service
Revolut is better for travel spending and multi-currency accounts — if you need to hold, spend and exchange multiple currencies and want a travel card that works in 150+ countries, Revolut is strong; if you are sending regular payments home to family, OrbitRemit’s flat-fee, rate-locked model is more predictable and often cheaper
Revolut is one of the most widely downloaded financial apps in Australia. It offers multi-currency accounts, travel cards, budgeting tools, crypto trading and international transfers all in one place. For the right use case, it is genuinely useful.
But Revolut is not a remittance service. It is a multi-currency financial platform that also offers international transfers. For migrants in Australia who send money home regularly — to India, the Philippines, Vietnam, Nepal, Indonesia, the UK or the Pacific — the difference matters.
This guide compares OrbitRemit and Revolut directly on the things that matter most for regular senders: fees, exchange rates, corridor coverage and transfer speed.

Fees
OrbitRemit fees
OrbitRemit uses a flat-fee model — a fixed amount per transfer regardless of how much you send.
| Corridor | AUD fee | NZD fee |
|---|---|---|
| AUD to INR (India) | $0 fee-free | $4 |
| AUD to PHP mobile wallets (GCash etc.) | $0 fee-free | $4 |
| AUD to PHP bank/cash pickup | $4 | $6 |
| AUD to VND (Vietnam) | $0 fee-free | $4 |
| AUD to NPR (Nepal) | $0 fee-free | $4 |
| AUD to IDR (Indonesia) | $4 | $4 |
| AUD to GBP (UK) | $0 fee-free | $0 fee-free |
| AUD to KRW (South Korea) | $0 fee-free | $0 fee-free |
| Most other corridors | $4 | $4 |
| All transfers above AUD/NZD $10,000 | Fee-free | Fee-free |
No exchange rate markup. No hidden margin. The rate shown in the app is the rate applied to your transfer.
Revolut fees
Revolut’s fee structure is more complex and depends on your plan, the day of the week, and how much you have exchanged that month.
Exchange rate model: Revolut adds its own margin above the mid-market rate. During market hours on weekdays, the exchange rate is competitive. Outside market hours — weekends (Friday 5pm to Sunday 6pm Eastern Time) — an additional markup applies.
Weekend markup by plan:
| Plan | Weekend markup | Monthly fee |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (free) | 1% | $0 |
| Plus | 0.5% | Paid |
| Premium | 0% | Paid |
| Metal | 0% | Paid |
Exchange limit: Standard plan users have a monthly exchange allowance. Once you exceed your limit, a 0.5% fair usage fee applies to all further exchanges regardless of day.
Transfer fees: In addition to the exchange rate, Revolut charges a transfer fee that scales with the amount sent and the destination. The exact fee depends on the currency, transfer type and your plan — check the Revolut app for the current fee before sending.
The practical impact of the weekend markup: If you send AUD $1,000 to the Philippines on a Saturday on the free Standard plan, a 1% weekend markup costs approximately AUD $10 on top of any transfer fee — in addition to Revolut’s exchange rate margin. This does not apply if you are on the Premium or Metal plan.
Exchange rates
OrbitRemit
OrbitRemit does not add a margin to the exchange rate. The rate shown when you start a transfer is the rate applied when you confirm — it is locked at that moment and does not change. There is no weekend surcharge, no fair usage cap and no plan tier affecting the rate.
Revolut
Revolut takes the mid-market rate and adds a margin on top. During weekday market hours and within your plan’s exchange limit, this margin is competitive. Outside these conditions — weekends, above exchange limits, or on the Standard plan after hitting the monthly cap — additional fees apply.
For Standard customers, the weekend fee is 1%. For Plus customers, it is 0.5%. Premium, Metal and Ultra customers do not pay an additional fee at weekends.
What this means for regular senders: If you send money on the same day each fortnight and that day falls on a weekend, you are paying 1% more on every transfer (on the Standard plan) than you would on a weekday. For a AUD $500 transfer, that is AUD $5 extra per transfer — AUD $130 per year — just from the weekend timing.
Corridor coverage
OrbitRemit
50+ countries with a specific focus on Asia-Pacific and Pacific Island corridors that matter most to migrants in Australia and New Zealand. Key corridors include direct delivery to:
- India: all major banks plus UPI
- Philippines: GCash, Maya, Coins.ph, GrabPay, all major banks, cash pickup
- Vietnam, Nepal, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan
- Pacific Islands: Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands
- UK, Canada, Europe, South Korea, China
Revolut
160+ countries in more than 70 currencies. Revolut covers more countries and currencies than OrbitRemit, making it useful for less common corridors. However, delivery methods are primarily bank transfer — GCash, UPI, Pacific Island mobile wallets and cash pickup are not available on Revolut.
For migrants sending to GCash, UPI, eSewa or Pacific Island wallets: OrbitRemit is the stronger option — Revolut does not support these delivery methods.
Transfer speed
OrbitRemit
Over 85% of transfers to Asia-Pacific destinations arrive within 2 hours. OrbitRemit uses direct local payment rails in major corridors rather than SWIFT correspondent chains.
Revolut
Depending on where you are sending, an international money transfer can arrive within one day, as a same-day transfer, or even as an instant money transfer. Speed varies by destination and transfer method.
For common Asia-Pacific corridors, OrbitRemit’s 85%+ within 2 hours track record is generally faster than Revolut’s typical bank transfer timeframes.
Customer support
OrbitRemit
Human customer support in Tagalog, Hindi, Nepali, Vietnamese, Mandarin and English — available via live chat in the app. Purpose-built for migrants in Australia and New Zealand.
Revolut
In-app customer support in English. Revolut’s support is primarily AI-assisted chat with human escalation. Digital-only — no physical branches, but online help available 24/7 in-app. No dedicated multilingual support for Asia-Pacific migrant communities.
Multi-currency account and travel features
This is where Revolut is genuinely strong — and where OrbitRemit does not compete.
Revolut offers:
- Hold and spend in 30+ currencies from a single account
- Physical and virtual debit card accepted in 150+ countries
- Competitive exchange rates for card spending overseas (weekday market hours, within plan limits)
- Budgeting tools, savings vaults, crypto and stock trading
- Travel insurance on paid plans
- RevPoints rewards on card spending
- Split bills with other Revolut users
OrbitRemit does not offer a multi-currency account, travel card or investment products. OrbitRemit is a dedicated money transfer service — it does one thing extremely well but does not replace a travel card or everyday banking app.
Who should use each service
Use OrbitRemit if you:
- Send money regularly to India, Philippines, Vietnam, Nepal, Indonesia, the Philippines or Pacific Islands
- Want a flat, predictable fee with no weekend surcharge
- Need GCash, UPI, eSewa, bKash or Pacific Island wallet delivery
- Want to speak to customer support in your language
- Are on a tight budget and want fee-free transfers to major corridors
Use Revolut if you:
- Travel frequently and want a card that works in 150+ countries at competitive exchange rates
- Want to hold multiple currencies in one account
- Send money occasionally to less common corridors not covered by OrbitRemit
- Are on the Premium or Metal plan and want near-mid-market rates with no weekend surcharge
- Want investment features (stocks, crypto) alongside transfers
Use both if you:
Many migrants use Revolut as their travel and everyday spending card, and OrbitRemit for regular remittances home. The two services do not overlap meaningfully — Revolut handles travel and multi-currency spending, OrbitRemit handles the regular payment home to family. This is a common and sensible combination.
