About LemFi
LemFi — formerly Lemonade Finance — was founded in 2020 by Ridwan Olalere (CEO) and Rian Cochran (CFO) in London. The founders previously worked together at OPay, the African fintech. LemFi was purpose-built to address the “immigrant discount” — the wealth erosion migrants face from high remittance fees and poor exchange rates.
LemFi is backed by Y Combinator and Highland Europe, and raised USD $86.8 million across five funding rounds including a Series B. It serves over 2 million users globally across the UK, US, Canada, Europe and — as of February 2026 — Australia, supporting transfers to 30+ countries primarily in Africa and Asia.
LemFi’s core model is zero flat fees on most corridors, with revenue earned through a small exchange rate margin. It also offers a multi-currency wallet — allowing users to hold, convert and spend in multiple currencies — which goes beyond pure remittance into broader financial management for migrants.
Regulation in Australia: AUSTRAC-registered as an independent remittance dealer (from February 2026).
Note: LemFi is not currently available for outbound transfers from New Zealand.

Fees and exchange rates
This is the most important comparison — and the one where LemFi and OrbitRemit take fundamentally different approaches.
OrbitRemit
OrbitRemit charges a flat fee per transfer — from $0 for GCash and some mobile wallet deliveries in the Philippines, to $4 AUD for bank deposit and cash pickup. All fees are shown upfront before you confirm.
- GCash and other Philippines mobile wallets: $0 fee
- Bank deposit and cash pickup: $4 AUD flat
- Transfers of AUD $10,000 or more: fee-free across all corridors
- First transfer: $0 fee + promotional exchange rate (new customers; applies to first $500; terms apply)
LemFi
LemFi charges zero transfer fees on most corridors including India, Philippines, Pakistan and Vietnam. It earns revenue through a small exchange rate margin — the difference between the mid-market rate and the rate LemFi offers you.
This means LemFi’s visible cost is $0 — but the total cost includes the rate margin embedded in the exchange. Always compare the total amount your recipient receives in local currency, not just the headline fee.
To find the true cost: check the mid-market rate on XE.com, then compare it to LemFi’s quoted rate. The difference is your actual cost.
Which fee model is better for you?
- Small transfers (under AUD $200): LemFi’s $0 fee means OrbitRemit’s flat $4 fee represents a higher percentage cost. LemFi may be cheaper for very small amounts, depending on the rate margin.
- Mid-range transfers (AUD $200–$10,000): Compare both providers’ live calculators. LemFi’s rate margin may be lower or higher than the effective cost of OrbitRemit’s flat $4 fee depending on the amount and corridor.
- Large transfers (AUD $10,000+): OrbitRemit is completely fee-free. LemFi continues to apply a rate margin on all amounts — no fee-free threshold exists. For large transfers, OrbitRemit’s fee-free model is a clear advantage.
Delivery options
The most significant practical difference between the two providers is delivery options.
OrbitRemit
- Bank deposit — 52+ countries
- Mobile wallets — GCash, Maya, GrabPay, Coins.ph (Philippines); bKash (Bangladesh); M-PAiSA (Fiji); M-Vatu (Vanuatu); MyCash and M-Tala (Samoa); Digicel Pacific MyCash (Tonga); and more
- Cash pickup — Philippines (5,000+ locations), Nepal, Vietnam
LemFi
- Bank deposit — 30+ countries
- Mobile wallets — M-Pesa (Kenya) and mobile money in select African corridors (delivery methods available from Australia may vary — check lemfi.com for current options)
- Cash pickup — ❌ Not available
- Multi-currency wallet — hold and spend in GBP, USD, EUR, CAD and more
What this means in practice: If your recipient needs cash pickup in the Philippines, Nepal or Vietnam — or receives funds via mobile wallet in the Pacific — OrbitRemit is the better fit. If you want a multi-currency wallet to hold and spend across currencies, LemFi offers a feature OrbitRemit does not.
Countries and corridors
OrbitRemit supports 52+ countries with a strong focus on Asia-Pacific, including Pacific Island nations. Key destinations include the Philippines, India, Nepal, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Bhutan, Vanuatu and more.
LemFi supports 30+ countries from Australia, with a focus on South Asia and Africa. Key destinations include India, Philippines, Vietnam, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana. LemFi does not currently support Pacific Island corridors — Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu are not available from Australia via LemFi.
For senders to Pacific Island destinations, OrbitRemit is currently the only digital provider in this comparison offering that coverage.
New Zealand senders
OrbitRemit supports transfers from New Zealand (NZD) to 52+ countries. OrbitRemit is headquartered in Wellington and is the natural home for NZ-based senders.
LemFi is not currently available for outbound transfers from New Zealand. This makes it an Australia-only comparison for now.
Customer reviews
OrbitRemit holds a Trustpilot Excellent rating of 4.8/5 from over 34,000 reviews. It also holds a ProductReview.com.au Top Rated badge for 2025 and 2026, and was awarded WeMoney Best for Value 2025 and 2026 and Outstanding Customer Service 2026.
LemFi holds a Trustpilot rating of 4.5/5 from over 9,600 reviews — strong for a provider that only recently expanded beyond its core UK/US/Canada markets. Positive reviews highlight speed, ease of use and the multi-currency wallet. Recurring negatives include occasional account suspensions and limited communication when issues arise.
