What is OrbitRemit?

OrbitRemit is an international money transfer service founded in 2008 in Wellington, New Zealand. It was built specifically for migrants in Australia and New Zealand sending money home to family across Asia-Pacific and the Pacific Islands — and today serves over 600,000 customers across more than 50 countries.

Unlike global remittance platforms that treat Asia-Pacific as one region among many, OrbitRemit was purpose-built for the corridors that matter most to communities in Australia and New Zealand: the Philippines, India, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Pacific Islands and the UK.

OrbitRemit is regulated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) with AFSL 470646, registered with AUSTRAC, and supervised by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) in New Zealand (FSP7721). All client funds are held in segregated accounts separate from OrbitRemit’s own operating funds.

No exchange rate markup. OrbitRemit does not add a margin on top of the exchange rate. The rate shown when you start a transfer is the rate applied when you confirm — fixed at that moment.

Exchange rates

OrbitRemit locks the exchange rate when you confirm your transfer. This means:

  • The rate you see is the rate your family receives — no last-minute changes
  • No weekend surcharges (unlike some competitors who charge 1% extra on weekends)
  • No fair usage caps or monthly exchange limits

Exchange rates update in real time based on currency markets. Always check the current rate in the app or on orbitremit.com before sending.

Transfer speed

Over 85% of OrbitRemit transfers to Asia-Pacific destinations arrive within 2 hours.

Speed depends on three things: your payment method, the corridor, and the delivery method:

Fastest: Debit card or PayID funding + UPI or GCash delivery — often under 30 minutes

Fast: Bank transfer funding + major Indian or Philippine bank — typically under 2 hours

Slower: Less common corridors or regional bank branches — may take 1-3 working days

Delivery methods by corridor:

  • India: Bank transfer to all major banks + UPI to any UPI ID
  • Philippines: GCash, Maya, Coins.ph, GrabPay, all major banks, cash pickup
  • Nepal: eSewa, IME Pay, Khalti, all major banks, cash pickup
  • Vietnam: Bank transfer, cash pickup
  • Indonesia: Bank transfer to all major banks
  • UK: Bank account and sort code (same-day settlement in many cases)
  • Pacific Islands: Bank transfer and local mobile wallets (M-PAiSA, MyCash, Digicel)

Payment methods

You can fund your OrbitRemit transfer using:

  • Bank transfer — most cost-effective; takes 30 minutes to a few hours to clear
  • Debit card — fastest funding option; clears within minutes; Visa and Mastercard accepted
  • Apple Pay / Google Pay — instant funding via linked debit card
  • PayID (Australia) — near-instant, 24/7; fastest combination with UPI or GCash delivery

Credit card payments are not accepted. This is a regulatory requirement — credit cards cannot be used for money transfers in Australia.
